Walk a day in someone else’s shoes and recognize the stories they carry with them. Being black in America and around the world is a narrative that combines moments of impact, resilience, love, and hope. It is an indication of power and strength for a community whose stories have gone unheard for centuries. With the launch of I MATTER, we are celebrating the voices of our creators and working to give a blank canvas to black individuals to declare “I matter”. There is something magical that occurs when we stir up empathy and use our platform to capture the voices of the impactful storytellers who have joined the crusade to shout “Black lives matter”. As said by one of our collaborators Jillian Suzanne about her collection that was, “Inspired by my lineage from my African ancestors and loved ones who have passed away and all that have come before me that have sacrificed their lives so I can live and be free in the United States of America”.
With the launch of I MATTER, we are celebrating something powerful, liberating, and inspiring by hearing the first-person proclamation from those who live the story of “being Black in America and around the world.” Although, racial issues are complex, something beautiful emerges when you walk in someone else’s shoes and recognize that their stories may have been born from darker, harder places. We are celebrating what should be visible. We are celebrating what matters.
